The 29th National Chess Championship was organised in JNV Wayanad, the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar winning school from 24th to 26th of September 2018. 240 participants representing the 8 Regions of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti came to take part in the event which was inaugurated by Shri. Karuppaswamy.R IPS, District Police Chief, Wayanad in a colourful function organised by the Vidyalaya. The function was presided over by Shri. M. Dravidamani, Asst. Commissioner, NVS RO, Hyderabad. Dr. Koshy John, Dean, College of Veterinary & Animal Science, Smt. Ushakumari.V, President, Vythiri Gramapanchayath, Dr. Govindankutty, International Arbiter, Smt. Kalpana Biju, President, Indian chess Academy, V.R.Santhosh, National FIDE Champion and Mr.Shibu Kurumbemadam, Executive Member, PTC, addressed the gathering. The formal inaugural function was followed by an enticing cultural programme highlighting 8 classical dance forms of Kerala. Matches commenced from 2 pm arbitered by experts. Hyderabad Region topped with 62 points and Jaipur Region became runnerup with 32 points.

The valedictory function was organised on 26th September 2018 at 4pm chaired by Shri.A.Y.Reddy, Deputy Commissioner, NVS RO, Hyderabad. Mr.N.Ashok, Director Academics&Researches, Kerala Veterinary & Animal Science University was the chief guest of the function. Medals were awarded to the winners by the chief guest and the dignitaries present during the function. The 'Kalaripayattu Demonstration by G.G. Kalari,  Pulpally was a real feast for everyone who gathered here from different corners of the country. Mr. K.O, Ratnakaran, principal, JNV Mahe, Mr. V.N.Balakrishnan, principal, JNV palakkad, Mr. S.J.Annassery, JNV Idukki, Mrs.Jitha.K.Nair, principal JNV Kollam, Smt. Swarnaltha, vice principal JNV Calicut were present during the entire course of the programme and offered their invaluable guidance and assistance in conducting the National Chess Championship 2018 in befitting manner.
